WHY ASSESS FIRST
Choosing a course from a ranking table is how people end up switching in year two.
Most students pick a subject because it was the strongest thing on their transcript, or because a relative did well from it. The assessment gives you a second input: how you actually work, what environments suit you, and which graduate roles line up with that. It does not decide for you — it gives the counselling session something real to work with.
- 01Structured, not a quizA validated instrument, debriefed by a counsellor.
- 02Mapped to real rolesResults tied to graduate jobs and the courses that reach them.
- 03Used in your shortlistThe report feeds directly into course selection.

A second opinion on a decision worth years
Most students choose a course because it was the strongest subject on their transcript, or because a relative did well out of it. Both are reasonable starting points and neither tells you much about what you would be good at, or happy doing, five years after graduation.
The assessment gives the counselling session a second input. It is a structured instrument rather than an online quiz, and it is debriefed by a counsellor who has read your file — because a results page on its own is easy to misread and easier to over-interpret.
WHAT IT COVERS
Three things, read together.
None of these means much in isolation. The value is in where they overlap, and where they contradict each other.
Who gets the most out of it?
Students who are genuinely undecided, students being pushed toward a course they are unsure about, and students whose strongest subject and strongest interest are not the same thing. In each case the report gives the conversation something concrete to work from. It helps least if you already know exactly what you want and why. In that case take the forty-five minutes back and spend them on your statement of purpose instead — we will tell you that rather than book you in anyway.
How to get an accurate result
The instrument is only as good as the honesty you bring to it. A few practical things make a real difference.
- ✓Answer as you areNot as the version of you that you think sounds employable
- ✓Do it in one sittingRoughly forty-five minutes, without interruptions
- ✓Do not research the questionsThere is no correct answer to reverse-engineer
- ✓Take it earlyBefore the shortlist, so the findings can shape it
- ✓Bring your parents to the debriefThe report is far more useful as a shared document
- ✓Treat it as inputIt informs the decision; it does not make it for you
